Byran Fuhrmann is an environmental chemist who has spent his entire professional career improving surface water quality. He is the lead inventor of seven U.S. patents and four commercial products focused on improving water quality in lakes, rivers, and estuaries — including EutroSORB (eutrosorb.com). He has overseen the use of these products and other technologies to restore water quality in hundreds of lakes across the United States, Europe, and Australia.

That operating history — hundreds of treatment programs, designed, executed, and measured — is what grounds his approach: identify the mechanism first, then match the intervention to it. He is the President of the California Lake Management Society, a Program Committee member for the North American Lake Management Society, and a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Source Water Protection Committee.

His expertise in heavy-metal geochemistry stems from pre-graduate work as a quality assurance manager at an environmental chemistry laboratory, his experience in wetland geochemistry, his focus on mercury cycling in aquatic environments during his PhD, and more recent work on AMD pollution, gold mining, and heavy-metal restoration through Clean Water Help.

Byran founded ENV Water Chemistry Solutions in 2025 to bring his niche expertise in economics and aquatic biogeochemistry to clients who need practical solutions for environmental protection and restoration. He is also the Executive Director of Clean Water Help, an international nonprofit of volunteer water resource professionals working to restore water quality for impoverished communities.

Abu holds two Master of Science degrees — Environmental Science and also in Tropical Ecology (with a minor in Soil Science). His research focuses on geochemical contaminants, aquatic ecology, water quality, and aquatic restoration.

Abu previously worked in the Environmental Laboratory of the Asia Arsenic Network, contributing to projects on heavy-metal detection, water and irrigation quality, health-risk assessment, and remediation strategies. He developed a rapid, low-cost field test kit for detecting arsenic, iron, and total coliform bacteria in drinking water. At VSU, his research focused on mangrove soil organic carbon, nutrient dynamics, and heavy-metal pollution.

Abu met Byran as a volunteer scientist for Clean Water Help. He currently serves as an Environmental Chemist at ENV Water Chemistry Solutions and as the Lead Scientist for Arsenic and Heavy Metals at Clean Water Help.

We work directly with lake associations, water utilities, mining operators, and engineering Primes across the US, Australia, and Southeast Asia.

Mission

Why this firm exists

ENV Water Chemistry Solutions exists in part to fund Clean Water Help — a 100% volunteer-run, founder-funded nonprofit providing free drinking water treatment, heavy metal remediation, and lake-management consulting services and solutions to communities in need. A portion of all ENV revenue supports CWH operations. When you work with us, you are also funding consulting hours for the communities that need them most.
